As a person ages, time takes its toll on the face causing drooping, which can often occur in the forehead and brow. Patients seeking a brow lift in Westchester County who struggle with obvious aging in the upper-face can turn to Dr. Neal Goldberg for a variety of brow lift techniques.
While a brow lift is most often performed to correct a drooping brow, it may also be used to correct asymmetric brow, glabellar creases, excess upper eyelid skin, crow’s feet, horizontal lines and furrows and a distorted brow shape. A brow lift may be combined with other surgical procedures such as a facelift, neck lift or eyelid surgery. The procedure is always individualized to the patient for a natural result.

Dr. Goldberg offers two types of brow lift procedures. In a traditional brow lift, tissues that cause furrowing or drooping are removed or altered. When endoscopic brow lifts are performed, the procedure is less invasive and a pencil-like instrument is used to view the underlying tissues. The benefits of an endoscopic brow lift are the use of small incisions and a shorter recovery time.

A traditional brow lift takes one to two hours to perform. The surgeon will first make an incision across the top of the head, behind the hairline. The forehead skin is then lifted and the underlying muscles and tissues are removed or altered to create a smooth appearance. The brows are elevated and secured with sutures under the skin or with titanium screws behind the hairline. Smaller incisions are closed with stitches or clips.
An endoscopic brow lift also takes one to two hours to perform and is done with local anesthesia in conjunction with intravenous sedation. The surgeon will make four to five small incisions behind the hairline. Using the endoscope, the surgeon will see the skin’s underlying structures during the procedure. The forehead skin is then lifted and the underlying muscles are removed or altered to create a smooth appearance. The brows are elevated and secured with sutures under the skin or titanium screws behind the hairline. The surgeon will then use stitches or clips to close smaller incisions.
Following a brow lift, the patient should allow about one week to return to normal activities. The patient should be able to shower and shampoo within three days. Some numbness, nausea, discomfort and swelling are possible. Stitches may be removed after one week and fixation screws may be removed in two to three weeks. After three weeks, most signs of the surgery will be gone. The patient should limit rigorous activity and sun exposure following the procedure. The results of the brow lift may last five to ten years.
Like with any surgical procedure, some complications are possible and may include nerve damage, scarring, hair loss along scar edges, loss of sensation, infection and bleeding.
