FDA to Implement Sunscreen Label Regulations

Within one year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will implement regulations to help protect consumers from skin cancer. The new rules will standardize labeling of sun protection products.

The new FDA sunscreen regulations will probably include steps to:

  1. Establish standards for testing effectiveness of sun protection products
  2. Require labeling that accurately reflects test results
  3. Limit maximum SPF value on the label to SPF 50+

The FDA will also evaluate dosage on products like spray-on sunscreen, and help sunscreen manufacturers test and accurately label their products based on the new standards.
